Prior to the dentist’s exam, our hygienist will take x-rays. Typically, under most dental insurance plans, you will have x-rays taken at every other appointment (once each year). You will also undergo a professional strength cleaning to remove plaque and tartar buildup along the surface of the teeth and gum line. If any signs of gum disease are detected, a deep cleaning may need to be administered. This procedure is also known as scaling and root planing, and it helps remove bacteria buildup below the gum line.

Once your teeth have been thoroughly cleaned, our hygienist will polish your teeth with a special, abrasive toothpaste to remove minor stains. In cases where you have weakened enamel or are prone to cavities, we will recommend a fluoride treatment to help strengthen your teeth. After your cleaning and polishing, the dentist will review your x-rays and perform a comprehensive examination. This will involve video diagnostic screening to check your teeth, bite, tongue, cheeks, and lips for early signs and symptoms of cavities and other serious oral diseases. If any issues are detected, we will present the cosmetic and restorative treatment options available to you.
